Restaurants

There are a surprising number of excellent restaurants in the area.

Restaurante Bocage: In downtown Loulé. Family-run restaurant since 35 years. Local and traditional Portuguese kitchen with a large menu and good simple food. An interesting mix of locals and tourists. The staff speak both French and English.

Monte da Eira: just outside the little village of Querença, in an old renovated quinta. Fine kitchen with traditional dishes both from the land and the sea. Nice and large terrace for those warm summer evenings. Very attentive staff.

Sabores do Campo: Northwest of São Brás de Alportel, just outside the city centre. Lovely winebar-restaurant with a lounge and fireplace (winter). Limited menu with exquisite Portuguese and international dishes. The staff are very friendly and are fluent in English.

Ysconderijo: Small and intimate restaurant, located in the old center of São Brás. More formal and modern surroundings. Exquisite Portuguese fusion cuisine featuring both ish and meat and loads of vegetables. Famous for its huge Tomahawk de vitela (Côte à l’os).

Restaurante Leonel e Filhos: Along the road to Loulé, before entering Loulé’s city centre. This Churrasqueria (speciality: chicken) almost seems like a cafeteria, but the atmosphere is great, the place is usually completely full and the food is both inexpensive and extremely delicious.

Lagar da Mesquita: In downtown Mesquite Baixa (take a right on the N270 road to Tavira), in a truly stunning old olive press building. Superb dining areas and food. Refined and very tasty. Friendly staff and an extensive Portuguese wine list. They speak French, English as well as German.
