Querenca, Salir and Alte

Querenca is mainly known for its photogenic square, with the magnificent church at its centre, surrounded by beautiful tiles. We also find the whitewashed houses featuring a typically Moorish chimney. Near Querenca lies the Benemola nature reserve, which makes for a nice walk to Fonte Benemola.

Salir
A small village with remains of an old Moorish castle. You can enjoy many stunning views over the serra from Salir.
Between Salir and Alte lies Rocha da Pena (Rock of Sorrow), an impressive slope hill 479 metres tall. A hiking trail (5 km) starts in the village of Rocha and takes you to the top of the hill. Along the way you can enjoy the rich flora and fauna.

Alte is yet another village with whitewashed houses, Moorish chimneys and cobblestone streets decorated with flowers. Below Alte are 2 springs (Fonte Pequene and Fonte Grande), both worth a visit.
